Plastic containers cut the bear uncomfortably into the meat

You can hardly imagine how much fear and pain a female bear in Florida had to endure. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has reported a bear wandering through the woods with a plastic container over its head, the wildlife agency reported on Facebook. For over three weeks, experts tried to track down the animal in need. The female bear could only be found after 28 days – we show pictures of the rescue in the video.

Experts spent weeks looking for the she-bear with the canister on her head

The agency immediately set traps and watched the area where the animal had been seen – in vain. It was only three weeks later that a local resident’s surveillance camera recorded the she-bear pounding past – her head was still stuck in the plastic container. New traps were set and the wildlife authority sent nightly patrols into the area, because the only thing that counted for them was that the animal should be cleared of the hazardous waste as soon as possible.

When they finally discovered the animal, it was anesthetized by bear experts. Then they could cut the plastic garbage off the sleepy bear’s head. The container was apparently so tight that it was indented around the animal’s neck and left an inflamed wound. The Wildlife Agency believes the plastic canister came from some sort of animal feeding station. Fortunately, there was a hole in it so that the she-bear was able to continue to consume food and water during the weeks of her captivity.

Animal was cared for and released back into the Florida wilderness

Physically, the animal was therefore in relatively good condition. Zookeepers only tended the wound and gave the lady bear an antibiotic. When after a day and a half they were convinced that the she-bear was eating and drinking normally, they released her back into the wild.

The agency thanked everyone who helped with the search and rescue and reminded everyone to secure anything that might attract bears, such as food dispensers. (jgr)
