The United States Coast Guard said it found four more bodies in its search for dozens of migrants who disappeared at sea near Florida, but warned that it would declare the end of the operation at sunset if it does not receive new information.
Authorities have found a total of five bodies, leaving 34 people still missing.
They have highlighted the difficulty of finding survivors in the troubled waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
A man found clinging to the hull of the 25-foot (7-meter) boat that capsized Tuesday about 40 miles (64 kilometers) from Fort Pierce, Florida, said the boat capsized Saturday night after he and Another 39 people left for Florida from Bimini, a chain of islands in the Bahamas about 55 miles (88 kilometers) east of Miami.
“We don’t think there are any other survivors,” Coast Guard Capt. Jo-Ann F. Burdian said during a news conference.
Authorities said the boat was about 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of where it capsized.
No one was wearing a life jacket, the rescued man told authorities.
