Florian Urban reminisces about Belgium – Football news

He played with Waregem, KV Mechelen, Germinal Ekeren, Eendracht Aalst and Anderlecht … But the younger readers may not remember him. However, Florian Urban (51) was the original ‘bad boy’ of the Belgian league.

His transfer to Anderlecht in 1997 was perhaps the most bizarre thing that happened in that decade. After all, Urban was known for his rock-hard way of playing and his love of beer. Nevertheless, he still had a very decent career in our country, because technically he was one of the better.

What is he currently doing? He is a taxi driver in Budapest, Hungary, his home country. There he reminisced about his Belgian adventures. He developed his love for horse racing there. “They organize a derby here every summer for famous people – singers, actors or former footballers like me. And last year I won – from a cart, it is about trot – with my horse Uncatchable”, he says in The newspapaer.

“I have loved equestrian sports since I was at Waregem. The chairman did not allow us to go to Waregem Koerse, but I went anyway. The next morning I was very fed up with training, I was allowed to go home and I got a big fine. (Laughs) ) Funny stories all. ”

At Germinal Ekeren he almost caused Jos Verhaegen to suffer from heart failure. “I was angry because there was another problem with money. If someone promises me 1,000 euros, I will not make peace with 500. So I told him: Not all right, then bomb in the car tomorrow. Car boom! It was all right a few days later. ”
