Florentino Perez, president of the Spanish football club Real Madrid, has assured that none of the founding members of the European Superliga (ESL) is threatened with expulsion from this season’s Champions League. There are up to three clubs among the participants in the semifinals, which take part in the creation of a competitive competition.
Jesper Möller, president of the Danish Football Federation and member of the UEFA executive, said on Monday that Real Madrid, Manchester City and FC Chelsea were threatened with expulsion from LM, which will be decided on Friday. “It’s a threat to someone who mistaken a monopoly on property. Madrid won’t be excluded from LM, certainly not. Neither Manchester City nor anyone. I won’t mention legal reasons, but they simply won’t exclude anyone, it’s not possible.” said Perez, who became the first president of the ESL.

At the same time, he reassured players who were threatened by UEFA that it would ban them from participating in national team matches if they started in the ESL: “Everyone can be calm. UEFA has a monopoly and it must be transparent, it does not have the best reputation behind it and it should give priority to dialogue instead of threats.”
According to him, the founding members want to respond to the development of the time, Perez stressed that football is in decline and faces a loss of interest among young people: “Football has to keep up and adapt. It’s the only global sport, we have to think about why people under the age of 24 are losing interest. Too many matches have no level and there are other platforms that provide more fun. A group of European clubs have teamed up to made the sport more attractive around the world, “ Perez was quoted by AFP.
