The FDP is taking part in the Bern municipal council elections with Florence Pärli. The 33-year-old city councilor prevailed against co-president Chantal Perriard at the nomination meeting on Monday evening. The Young Liberal Party Pärli received 40 of the 72 votes. She is head of the FDP/JF parliamentary group in the city council. The lawyer works professionally for the tax administration of the canton of Solothurn.

Pärli presented herself to party members as a combative financial politician. “The red-green majority has put the city in a delicate situation.” “The finances cannot be restructured with the left hand,” she said. As a local councilor, she would like to take over the finance department.

Pärli’s fight for office

With Pärli, the FDP is aiming to return to the Bern city government. The last liberal local councilor was Alexandre Schmidt, who missed re-election in 2016. This time the FDP is trying its luck on a joint list with GLP, SVP, Center and EVP. Each party should nominate one person. At least at the GLP, participation in the “Together for Bern” list is controversial; a decision is expected next week.

At the FDP, the joint list was undisputed on Monday. The members voted unanimously in favor of it without discussion. The red-green camp currently holds four of the five local council seats. The fifth belongs to Reto Nause (center), who will no longer be running in the fall. The aim of the civil list is to capture two of the five seats.
