One more year—and it’s been six—Córdoba is filled with flowers, but not from the pots on the façade (those are never lacking) but from pure innovation in floral design and installations. As usual, the Flora Festival will leave everyone who visits the city with their mouths open. between October 16 and 26.
under the topic Plant intelligence5 international creators, some of the most relevant names in this sector such as Ha I I Hwa (Korea) presenting the facility artificial defense mechanism in the Viana Palace, the Lithuanian Tadao Cern,that has been presentedBlack flower / White eco located in the second patio of the Archaeological Museum of Córdoba, Harriet Parry (UK) with heartwood in the Patio de los Naranjos and the Spanish Flowers by Bornay with a work titled Mobile in a mobile exhibited in the Provincial Council of Córdoba (in addition to the winners of the III Patio Talento call, the Russians Flowgardenz)have displayed their talent in the most emblematic institutional courtyards of the city such as the Orive Palace, the Archaeological Museum, the Viana Palace, the Provincial Council of Córdoba and the Patio de los Naranjos of the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, which, among other locations, have been the settings chosen for the five floral artists to present their own vision of the intelligence of plants through large-format artistic installations.

As usual, after the first weekend the awards ceremony took place for the most revealing project, chosen by a jury that this year was made up of MaríaEugenia Diego (KOKON), FLORA 2022 winning artist; Marie Perennes, curator at the Foundation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris and independent curator; and Vicente Todolí, artistic director at the Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan. José María Bellido, mayor of Córdoba and Juan Ceña, founding partner of Zizai Cultura and promoter of FLORA, were in charge of giving the first prize of the festival to Tadao Cern for its installation Black flower / White eco located in the second patio of the Archaeological Museum of Córdoba. The prize is worth 25,000 euros and the jury has highlighted “the performative nature of the piece, connection with the theme, effectiveness in the use of resources and metaphor for the mix of cultures typical of the history of Córdoba.”

The second prize went to Flowgardenz for its installation Cell, located in the courtyard of the Orive Palace, for “its coherence in all the elements used, play of scales and immersive sensation.” María Van de Eynde, director of FLORA, has joined the general enthusiasm this year stating that “the festival is a clear example of how alive contemporary floral art is; in which there are more and more emerging creators with great artistic potential who decide to focus their careers on this discipline.”
