After the gnarled and unsatisfactory start 4: 4 against Norway and the exploit with the Victory against Finland, four times world champion – it was the first in 18 years – freestyle followed on Tuesday. Thanks to the 9: 3 triumph against Slovakia, Switzerland wins their group. This is a little unexpected, but it’s a great success.
Because with the group victory, Switzerland prevented an early duel with the first floorball team: Sweden, nine-time world champion (to 13 finals). The Nati have never won against the Scandinavians in a World Cup. So in the home of the World Cup it is also a question of avoiding Tre Kronor for as long as possible.
Although the Swedes also won their group, they showed more problems than expected. Especially against the Czech Republic, Sweden had to shiver in the last match. The 3: 3 draw was achieved only with a goal in the 56th minute. Thanks to this, the group win was canceled on Monday evening, which was probably in Switzerland’s interest.
This showed a calm performance against Slovakia on Tuesday. In the first match at the Winterthur AXA Arena – the national team had already played twice in the new ZSC stadium, the Swiss Life Arena in Altstetten – Tim Braillard opened the can in the 5th minute. After the first third, Nati were leading 4: 2, after the second 6: 2 – Claudio Laely had scored a brace there. In the end it was 9: 3, a clear win to finish the group stage.
