Materials brought from the Thessalian plain that was irreparably damaged by the bad weather Daniel and Elias have created an islet in Pagasitikos. The professors’ study of Lake Karla, from which they “escape” is typical 700,000 cubic meters of water daily, ending up in the Thessalian gulf.
On her day District Thessalyin the presence of Dimitris Kouretas, discussed the effects of floods phenomena of the bad weather “Daniel” as well as from the continuous and unknown for how long, inflow of water from Lake Karla, as reported by the newspaper “Freedom”, which covered the day. Scientists point out the need for continuous environmental monitoring of agro-industrial waste.
In this way, the consultation was opened for the next day in Thessaly, in the presence of professors of the University of Thessaly, representatives of productive bodies, in order for the Region to compose its own proposal, against the Dutch “HVA International”. It is recalled that the company presented the plan to the Mitsotakis government, which in turn made public the “masterplan”, causing strong reactions in the agricultural world.
As part of the work of the conference, his professors Department of Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Thessaly with suggestions they noted the need for scientific monitoring of impacts on the Pagasitic Gulfas well as from the intensity of the phenomena from the first hours received waste (agricultural, industrial, etc.), while on a daily basis it now accepts 700,000 cubic meters of water from Carla.
The professor, Constantine Garlicspeaking about the “Chemical Environmental Imprint of the ‘Daniel’ and ‘Elias’ Flood Events in the Surficial Sediments of the Pagasitic Gulf” noted his concern for the “Carla’s Invasion”, among other things, he proposed the creation of dams to stop the transported materials and highlighted it need for the environmental monitoring of the Pagasitic Gulf.
For his part, the professor, N. Neophytou introducing the topic “The effects of flooding phenomena on the water quality of the Pagasitikos gulf” he emphasized that until today “the marine ecosystem has enormous endurance” and that the day before yesterday, the measurements show that “there are no significant aggravating effects” in the Pagasitikos, he pointed out at the same time the need to find a comprehensive solution.
“Carla is a burning issue for Pagasitikos” he said characteristically underlining the need to provide a comprehensive solution, in Karla and Pagasitikos with a unified approach to the problem, since no one excludes the recurrence of intense weather phenomena in the future.
