Floods Submerge Four Districts in Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia

Jakarta

Four districts in Cianjur, West Java, submerged in floods. Joint officers evacuated three families in Kampung Nambo, Mande Village, Mande District, who were trapped flood 2 meters high.

The manager of Pusdalops BPBD Cianjur Wendi Mulyadi said the three families were evacuated several hours after being trapped on the 2nd floor of a resident’s house.

“Joint officers from BPBD and PMI have succeeded in evacuating residents trapped in the flood. Because the water level reached 2 meters, it took time to evacuate because they had to use rubber boats,” Wendi told reporters, Thursday (4/5/2023).

According to him, the three families were evacuated safely. “All of them are safe and immediately temporarily evacuated to the courtyard of the mosque,” he said.

Apart from evacuating residents, he continued, BPBD also sent food logistics for displaced residents. “The evacuation was divided into two, in the courtyard of the mosque and in residents’ homes that are safe from flooding. All of them have been sent food logistics,” he said.

According to Wendi, the flood had started to recede at 02.00 WIB. However, officials are still on alert for fear of rain and subsequent flooding.

“Officers remain on standby at the location, worried that there will be further flooding. Considering that this area is prone to flooding,” he said.

Floods occurred in four sub-districts in Cianjur Regency, West Java, Wednesday (3/5) evening. Even in Mande District, the water level reaches 2 meters.

Information compiled by detikJabar, the floods occurred around 21.00 WIB in four sub-districts, namely Ciranjang District, Pacet District, Mande District and Cikalongkulon District.

The worst flood occurred in Mande Village, Mande District, where the water level reached 2 meters. Dozens of houses were submerged until the water level almost touched the roof.

“In Mande there are two villages that were affected by flooding. The worst was in Mande Village. It is suspected that it was caused by an overflow of river water after several hours of heavy rain,” said Head of Mande sub-district, Rela Nurela.
