Floods in Turkey. The death toll now stands at 27

Twenty-seven people were killed in flash floods in the Black Sea region of Turkey, and more than 1,700 people have been evacuated, the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) announced on Friday.

This is the second natural disaster to hit the Turkey this month.

The floods wreaked havoc in the northern provinces of the country, just as the authorities announced that they had contained part of the forest fires that have been raging for two weeks in the southern coastal regions.

1,700 people evacuated

Twenty-five people were killed in the floods in Kastamonu province and two others died in Sinop, authorities said.

The search continues to try to find a missing person in the province of Bartin.

AFAD said more than 1,700 people had been evacuated from the affected areas in the three provinces, some by helicopters and boats.

Also according to the agency, the floods damaged electrical infrastructure, depriving more than 330 villages of power. Five bridges collapsed and many more were damaged, leading to the closure of several roads, she added.
