Floods in Rio Grande do Sul: Impact on Infrastructure and Essential Services

Corsan, responsible for water supply, has 165,446 unserved customers, representing 6% of the total. In state schools, the situation is also critical, affecting 1,030 schools in 244 municipalities and 29 Regional Education Coordinators. In total, 358,414 students were affected, with 530 schools damaged, with 216,883 students enrolled, and 84 schools in shelters.

In terms of highways, the rains caused damage in 85 sections with total and partial closure of 49 state highways in Rio Grande do Sul. The Highways Authority (Daer) and the Military Brigade Road Command (CRBM) are working to clear the roads as quickly as possible and to ensure vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
