Floods in Mazatenango: Authorities report two missing due to the rains

The Municipal Firefighters of San Miguel Panán and San Antonio Suchitepéquez report two people missing as a result of the recent rains.

The first case is that of Amílcar Mis Chavajay, who was driving an agricultural truck and was returning from the municipality of Chicacao. Upon arriving at the Monte Cristo Farm, in the Monte Llano Village of San Miguel Panán, they faced a flood of the Los Encantos River. Despite the danger, they tried to cross, but halfway there the vehicle was swept away by the current.

Lifeguards report that Selvin Tunay, 27, managed to get to safety, while his friend Amílcar remains missing. Both are originally from the municipality of Samayac.

Another case

The second case involves a woman who accidentally fell into a ditch with flowing water. According to witnesses, the victim slipped near the 10 de Mayo Park, at which time she alerted the Municipal and Volunteer Firefighters.

Paramedics from the Red Cross treated several families from the El Progreso Village of Mazatenango who required medical attention after suffering nervous breakdowns due to the storm that occurred this afternoon and evening in Suchitepéquez.
