Floods due to severe weather in England, Sicily problems not over yet

There is a special warning for hikers. Scafell Pike is the highest peak in England at 978 meters in Cumbria. People who go up the mountain run the risk of not being able to descend because the level in the rivers rises so quickly, a spokesperson for the local authorities says against the BBC.

Also a lot of rain in Sicily

In the south of Europe, there are still problems in Sicily due to the bad weather. It rained a lot there for days. The region around Catania, on the eastern side of the Italian island, has been particularly hard hit. There are at least two dead reported.

Rainfall has decreased, but strong winds are pushing up water in flooded areas. Thunderstorms are also expected. About 60 centimeters of rain fell over a number of days. Many schools and non-essential businesses will remain closed until at least tomorrow.

A hospital in Catania had to be evacuated due to the flooding. Many homes and businesses were left without power.
