A storm that has generated rain and snow in northern California will gain strength in the next few hours, causing flooding, authorities reported.
The rains and snowfall that began on Sunday intensified overnight. According to the weather service, the storm could dump more than 2.4 meters of snow in the highest areas of California and California.
“This is a fairly widespread event,” said meteorologist Anna Wanless of the National Weather Service in Sacramento.
“Most of California, if not the entire state, will get some rain and snow.”added.
Leaving aside the effects, the storm will bring the necessary humidity after the recent drought in the state. Regions of Montana, Oregon, California, Nevada, and Utah are classified as exceptional drought areas, which is the most extreme category.
It should be remembered that most of the national reserves that supply water to states, cities, tribes, farmers and public services depend on the snowmelt registered in the spring.
Although the storm is common at this time of year, it is the first significant snowfall with the threat of hindering traffic due to ice and snow on the roads, high winds and limited visibility, Wanless said.
