Flooding Strikes Kyiv and Other Cities as Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station Suffers Damage

Kyiv, other cities and entire regions of Ukraine go under water due to damage at the Kakhovka hydroelectric station. This was announced by the head of the Civil Protection Department of the Kyiv City State Administration (KSCA) Roman Tkachuk.

“Today, there are damages at the Kakhovskaya HPP, which is now not operating in full technological mode, and therefore the entire cycle of technological work of the HPPs themselves is disrupted. All these factors are superimposed on spring floods and lead to flooding – the water level is one meter higher than usual, ” he told Espreso.tv.

Tkachuk explained that earlier the water level in the Dnieper was artificially maintained at the expense of the Kievskaya, Kanevskaya and Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power stations, but the shelling of the latter affected the operation of all Ukrainian stations.

Earlier, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine stated that 1,564 households in six regions of the country were flooded due to rising water levels in rivers.
