This latest attack comes after Ukrainian officials warned that Moscow was planning a new all-out assault early next year, 10 months after the invasion was launched.
Vitaly Kim, governor of Mykolaiv region, said at least 60 Russian missiles had rained down on different parts of Ukraine.
Russia has been attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on an almost weekly basis since early October after a string of war setbacks.

Moscow says it is part of its plan to cripple Ukraine’s military. However, Kiev claimed it was a war crime.
“A Russian missile hit a residential building in Kryvyi Rih,” Dnipropetrovsk Oblast governor Valentyn Reznichenko wrote on Facebook, as quoted Reuters.
“The stairwell was destroyed. Two people died. At least five people were injured, including two children. They are all in hospital,” he continued.
Russian troops are now trying to defend territory to the south and east, which is about one-fifth of Ukraine’s total area.
The fighting on the front lines was brutal, with many soldiers from both sides presumed killed or wounded, although neither side has released detailed reports of military casualties.
