As of June 21, in Yalta, local residents are still struggling with the aftermath of the flood. The sea off the coast turned brown after flooding due to debris and mud that washed away the streams of water. However, this did not stop some of the townspeople from swimming in the muddy sea.
According to “Kryminform“, local” authorities “have banned swimming in the sea until June 23. Experts intend to test sea water for cholera and other infectious diseases.
In addition to possible water contamination, the disaster damaged residential buildings. So, on Jafer Seydamet Street in the Vasilyevka microdistrict, a dozen houses were flooded.
“10 houses were flooded, several of them completely sunk under the water, covered with stones and mud. Water is coming, and it can be seen with the naked eye,” said the so-called head of the Yalta administration Yanina Pavlenko.
She noted that old trolleybuses partially block the way to the water flow. Now the “authorities” are trying to solve the problem of widening the channel of the Vodopadnaya River.
“Most of the residents – primarily children and the elderly – have been evacuated, but some are still trying to save their homes,” the official said.
“Deputy” of the Yalta City Council Andrey Protsenko in Facebook wrote that water flooded a kindergarten on Museum Street.
“The parents on their own are diverting the river from the building of the kindergarten and from the entrance, the yard is destroyed and everything is muddy! And maybe even the work of the kindergarten will be suspended indefinitely until it is restored, or partially limited,” he said.
Also, according to reports on social networks, the water does not recede along Vergasova Street.
In turn, due to heavy rains, Yalta exceeded the annual volume required for water supply. It was possible to accumulate 24.5 million cubic meters of water with an annual demand for the entire city of 21 million.
