A state of emergency has been declared in the Orenburg Oblast, where Orsk is located, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said.

A dam broke on the Ural River in Orsk. As a result, water flooded several thousand houses. Members of the crisis team admitted that such a flood “occurs once every hundred years,” writes the Kommersant daily.

The level of the Ural River was over 9.2 meters on Saturday morning – 2 meters higher than the alarm level. “The mayor of Orsk spoke about the rapid deterioration of the flood situation. The water in the Old Town on the left bank of the Urals, where the dam collapsed, will remain there for at least 1.5-2 weeks. Half of the district is flooded and there is a risk of its isolation,” he adds. “Kommersant”.
