Flood in Greece: Missing Couple from Graz, Austria; Body of Man Found

Flood in Greece: A couple from Graz has been missing since last week. Now a man’s body has been found.

A week after the severe floods in central Greece, many people are still unable to return to their homes. Seven villages are still cut off from the environment, and many houses are destroyed and uninhabitable, the newspaper reports Kathimerini.

Near the city Larisa A refugee camp was set up for 1,300 affected people.

The water levels are now falling. On the one hand, this brings relief to the region – but on the other hand, there are growing fears that more flood victims will be found.

Thousands of animal carcasses are now being uncovered, which must be collected and burned as quickly as possible in order to avert the risk of epidemics. As of Tuesday, around 15,000 carcasses of sheep, goats and cows had already been collected and burned, Greek media reported.

Graz couple missing: After women’s bodies, now men’s bodies discovered

There is no further reliable news about the couple from Graz who have been missing for a week. The two 35-year-olds said yes to each other in Greece and wanted to spend their honeymoon in a bungalow on the beach in the town Potistika enjoy. The Austrians’ holiday accommodation in the hard-hit region choose was washed away and the two have been missing since then.

The search operation by local authorities is ongoing, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday. “Divers and search and rescue dogs are also used.”

A woman’s body was discovered on Potistika beach on Tuesday. According to Greek media, it could be the missing woman from Graz. In order to obtain further information about the identity, DNA traces are now being evaluated. However, this is a longer process, so no results are currently available.

DNA test ordered

Now a male body has also been found, reports Krone with reference to the Foreign Ministry.

Here too, a DNA test should provide final certainty. It will take a few more days until the result is available. No results from the DNA test are expected this week.
