While the rains of the past few days have led to catastrophic flooding in Slovenia and large parts of Styria and Carinthia, Upper Austria has been relatively spared. Nevertheless, it is important to always be prepared for emergencies and to invest in early warning systems. In this respect, the Hydrographic Service Upper Austria is working on expanding the range of information on the website hydro.ooe.gv.at
To this end, new measuring points are being set up on the water bodies and existing ones are being retrofitted with the appropriate technical components such as data collectors and long-distance transmission facilities. “It’s not a question of if, but when the next flood will come,” says Environment and Climate Councilor Stefan Kaineder (Greens). With almost 200 measuring points throughout Upper Austria, 156 of which are online on the Hydrographic Service’s website, the country and people have important early warning systems “that provide us with live data”. Since this year, from a further 30 surface water measuring points – 26 at Upper Austria. rivers and four on the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut lakes – current measured values available. Water levels, water temperature and other measuring point-specific information are online at hydro.ooe.gv.at accessible.
There are the following new measuring points in the Kirchdorf district: Dandelmühle/Paltenbach gauge, Dietlgut/Steyr gauge, Hinterstoder/Steyr gauge, Leonstein/Schmiedleitnerbach gauge and Teichlbrücke/Teichl gauge.
