New Delhi. Torrential rains in the north-western part of the country in five days between July 5 and 10 have filled the quota of water across the country. On June 30, India recorded 10 percent less rainfall than normal, while by July 11, the country recorded 2 percent surplus rainfall.
This heavy rain in many states of North India has increased the heartbeat of the national capital Delhi. Here the water level of Yamuna has reached much above the danger mark. According to government agencies, it crossed the level of 208 meters by 10 pm on Wednesday night, inundating the low-lying areas adjacent to the Yamuna river in the city.
For the first time such a boom was seen in Yamuna
This is the first time such a surge has been seen in the Yamuna near Delhi. Earlier in the year 1978, the water level of the river was recorded at 207.49 meters. LG calls meeting of DDMA
On the other hand, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena has called a meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Thursday regarding the rising water level of Yamuna. While inspecting the Yamuna river, Saxena told reporters that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been deployed and all people living in low-lying areas will be evacuated.
Saxena expressed hope that the water level of Yamuna will come down in the next few days as the release of water from Hathinikund Barrage in Haryana has come down. He said, ‘Many teams of NDRF have been deployed. No affected area will be left untouched and we will provide assistance to all.
