New flooding in Belgium

Streams washed away cars, turned up boulders, dragged asphalt slabs behind them. However, the intensity of the rains subsided rather quickly.

In Belgium, the bad weather hit the areas again, affected just over a week back from the worst flood. As reported on Saturday, July 24, the Belga News Agency, in the city of Dinant (province of Namur), 90 km southeast of Brussels, cars washed away by streams of water blocked a railway crossing.

At the same time, as the Infrabel operator company informed, the message was suspended after the first disaster struck. According to the Belgian public broadcaster RTBF, it was planned to restore the movement by 9 August.

RTBF reported that the water level began to rise rapidly on the route towards Philippeville (Namur province) around 19.30-20.00 local time (20.30-21.00 Kiev time). The stream washed away cars, turned over cobblestones, dragged asphalt slabs behind it. However, the intensity of the rain subsided rather quickly.

In Namur, a number of residents had to be evacuated

In the city of Namur, residents of several houses had to be evacuated after one of the walls collapsed. Thus, a family of six was relocated at the expense of the city to a hostel nearby. In the commune of Ane (province of Namur), several villages were flooded.

After the floods last week, 36 victims were officially registered in Belgium as of July 23, and several more people are still missing.
