A floating nightclub sank last night in the Sava River in Belgrade during a concert by a Serbian rapper, the national TV station RTS reported. No one was injured in the incident, the media reports.
Over 100 young people, including high school students, had gathered on the floating platform of the Kartel club, located on the quay of the Sava River in Belgrade’s Novi Beograd district, for a concert by Serbian rapper Emin Hajjlic Tsunami. Shortly after midnight, the platform began to sink, and many of the visitors started jumping into the water, BTA reports.
“At 12:44 p.m., it was determined that the rig was sinking and that the evacuation of the people of the club and the water was necessary. The bridge between the platform and the shore sank,” the Serbian interior ministry said.
The head of the Department for Emergency Situations reported that a total of 114 people were evacuated. Among them there were 10 minors. Two were taken to hospital due to alcohol poisoning.
“30 firefighters-rescuers with 11 vehicles and five specialized teams for rescue and work in the water were engaged, as well as a large number of representatives of the gendarmerie, the police and emergency services,” explained the Ministry of the Interior.
