FlixBus’ mother bought an American Greyhound

British train and bus operator FirstGroup was looking for people interested in taking over the Greyhound before the pandemic, Reuters reported. After completing all the requisites with the sale, it will be withdrawn from the international market. The company is the largest bus operator in Britain.

FlixMobility is one of the most successful German traffic start-ups. It was established in 2012 and has been operating in the USA since 2018. It covers the FlixBus and FlixTrain brands. According to Handelsblatt, the transaction announced on Thursday may be a step towards the company’s listing on the stock exchange.

FlixMobility will acquire buses, drivers and the US-famous brand from FirstGroup. The business does not include real estate, Greyhound pension liabilities or activities in Mexico. FirstGroup will receive $ 172 million from the sale, according to its statement.

Prior to the pandemic, long-distance buses in the United States carried about 62 million passengers a year, Handelsblatt said.

Greyhound is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 2014, the Greyhound name has been used since 1929. It provides long-distance intercity passenger transportation to hundreds of destinations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
