Flixbus is temporarily ceasing to operate due to travel restrictions

The long-distance travel provider Flixbus is temporarily ceasing to operate due to the new Corona regulations. The long-distance train company Flixtrain will temporarily no longer operate from Tuesday, as the Flixmobility company announced on Friday.

If the situation allows, Flixbus wants to resume operations by the holidays. “Flixtrain will also run again as soon as it is possible and sensible.” Co-founder and managing director André Schwämmlein said this decision is not an easy one. “After all, our modes of transport are two of the safest modes of transport even in times of Corona.” Nevertheless, one has to react to the current situation.

Schwämmlein referred in the “Welt am Sonntag” to the travel restrictions requested by politicians. When Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) asks “not to travel, that naturally has an impact on demand,” said Schwämmlein.

In the spring, the company temporarily stopped offering trips due to the Corona requirements. In May around 50 destinations could be reached again, including Berlin and Cottbus. “In the summer we were able to serve about half of our network again. We follow the demand very closely,” said Schwämmlein. As early as October, however, there was “a reduced desire to travel” again. “At the moment we are around 30 percent, but we will reduce it completely again because the political wish is not to travel,” said the Flixbus boss.

In addition to major cities such as Berlin, Leipzig, Nuremberg, Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main and Munich, Flixbus also serves smaller cities such as Bayreuth, Himmelkron, Titisee-Neustadt, Weimar and Wolpertshausen. Cottbus is also back in the program.
