Flitsmeister warns of approaching Frisian and Drenthe ambulances
Drenthe / Friesland – The Frisian and Drenthe ambulances of UMCG Ambulancezorg can now all be seen at Flitsmeister.
Flitsmeister, Kijlstra Ambulancezorg and UMCG Ambulancezorg have signed an agreement to receive the vehicle locations of the Frisian and Drenthe ambulances via a link with the National Server Incidents and Vehicles (LSIV) of Ambulancezorg Nederland (AZN).
This data is used to warn motorists even better of approaching ambulances via Flitsmeister. In this way, motorists can make space for these emergency vehicles at an early stage and calmly. Naturally, the data used is processed completely anonymously and all rules regarding privacy and the protection of personal data are taken into account.
Collaboration with ambulance services in Fryslân and Drenthe
Previously, only some of the ambulances were visible via the Flitsmeister app. This went through third-party systems. Due to the link with the national AZN server, the required data is sent directly from the source to Flitsmeister. As a result, the ambulances of Kijlstra Ambulancezorg and UMCG Ambulancezorg in Fryslân and Drenthe can now all be seen in Flitsmeister.
Sietze Kijlstra, General Manager of Kijlstra Ambulance Care is pleased with this collaboration: “Our ambulance drivers regularly experience how badly they are sometimes noticed by other road users. Then it helps that the users of Flitsmeister are warned in good time about ambulances approaching urgently. This increases road safety and benefits the transport of our patients. ”
“Everyone knows the blue flashing lights and the accompanying ‘tatuu tatuu’ of the ambulance, and the variants from the police and the fire brigade. We applaud any additional warning to alert road users to our arrival, such as that from Flitsmeister, ”adds Victor Verrijp, director of UMCG Ambulance Care.
Flitsmeister does not change for the user
In the Flitsmeister app, the situation remains unchanged for the users. If there is an ambulance with optical sound signals (OPGS) in the vicinity, Flitsmeister sends the app user a warning with images and audio. This allows motorists to anticipate the ambulance approaching urgently.
Purpose and future
Via the link with the National Server Incidents and Vehicles of AZN, Flitsmeister can potentially gain access to the data of all ambulances in the Netherlands. Something that is currently being worked hard on. At the same time, we also want to warn motorists of other approaching emergency and assistance services in the future. Consider, for example, the fire brigade.
Jorn de Vries, spokesman for Flitsmeister: “We have been sending Flitsmeister users alerts for several years when ambulances and other emergency services arrive. The lack of 100% coverage has always been a downside to our service. It is extremely important that thanks to this collaboration we can now work towards that 100% coverage.
We think this is very important and it benefits road safety. We know that this service is highly appreciated by our nearly 2 million users. In addition, we help the drivers of the ambulances, who are on the road every day to transport their patients as safely and comfortably as possible. ”
