Flights to the USA from Norway

It was in January that the new airline Norse Atlantic Airways – which has Bjørn Kjos on the ownership side – received permission to fly people to the USA.

On Friday, they report that ticket sales have started, and the first departure goes to JFK Airport in New York on June 14.

Four routes

– This is a big day for all of us in Norway, and I want to thank all our fantastic employees and supporters who have contributed to us now being able to offer the lowest prices on direct flights from Norway to the USA. We look forward to welcoming customers on board our modern, comfortable and more environmentally friendly Dreamliner aircraft, says CEO Bjørn Tore Larsen of Norse Atlantic Airways, in a press release.

It starts with two flights a week, but this increases by three from 21 June.

A quick price check at lunchtime on Friday shows that a weekly trip to New York from 14 to 21 June will cost 2127 kroner. The price is 993 kroner round trip and 1134 kroner return.

June 18 is ready for flights to Fort Lauderdale in Miami, before Orlando and Los Angeles start on July 5 and August 9, respectively.

Think prices are holding up

Aircraft analyst Hans Jørgen Elnæs in Winair has faith in the newcomer.

– If we look at the price level, it is probably the first time I see these prices for direct flights to the USA, he comments to DinSide.

He thinks the prices that have now been presented will stay for a while.

– Norse has been clear in its communication when it comes to offering attractive prices, but not all seats will go to this price, he points out.

An unknown factor, however, is the price of jet fuel, which has skyrocketed.

– It is up 55 percent in the last month and up 560 percent since April 2020. This is something all airlines are aware of, and some of this can be taken up in the ticket price, he says.

Norse Atlantic will also fly cargo, and Elnæs points out that good prices for transporting Norwegian seafood can also help to subsidize the ticket price.

– Although our main focus will be passenger transport, cargo will be an important supplement and therefore an important part of our strategy going forward, the company has previously stated to the professional website Logistics Inside

– The company seems well screwed together, with enough pilots and cabin crew to deliver on the route program, Elnæs adds.
