Flights canceled in many parts of the world at Christmas

Flights have been canceled in many parts of the world at Christmas

During this holiday period, some 4,500 flights worldwide were canceled and thousands more were delayed. About 2,400 flights were canceled on December 24, according to Flightaware.com. At least 2,000 more flights have been canceled on 25 December. About 600 flights are scheduled to be canceled on Sunday.

The main reason for this is that the pilots and crew of the aircraft suffer from coronavirus. Many employees are also forced to isolate themselves because they have been in contact with patients. Omicron has become the dominant strain of coronavirus in the United States. It is highly contagious and therefore spreads rapidly. Hospitals in some parts of the United States are reported to be almost overcrowded.

One of the largest US airlines, United, was forced to cancel about 10% of flights. In a statement, the airline’s management states that they have exhausted all possibilities to find enough staff to carry out the scheduled flights. United has promised to provide alternative connections to its passengers.

Another major US airline, Delta, made a similar statement. It was forced to cancel about 260 flights on Saturday and 170 flights on Friday.

Flights have also been canceled by major European airlines, including Lufthansa. However

China currently has the highest number of canceled flights. China Eastern has canceled about 480 flights, representing 20% of its schedule.

Air China, on the other hand, was unable to provide 15% of the scheduled flights.

However, in general, the number of travelers has increased during the holidays this year. The American Automobile Association has estimated that more than 109 million Americans plan to travel longer between December 23 and January 2. This represents an increase of more than 30% compared to last year.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, have had traditional contacts with the North American Air Defense Headquarters on Christmas Eve. This organization has been watching Santa’s movement around the world for more than 60 years. Major General Eric Kenny has told Baiden that Santa’s travel plans are not compromised and that he will deliver the presents on time.

Biden has later spoken through a video call with some American families. He asked the children what gifts they would like to receive and encouraged them to go to bed before midnight. However, the traditional moment of the holiday was overshadowed by the derogatory phrase about Baiden expressed by a child’s father. It is widespread among supporters of former US President Donald Trump.
