Seven years after the disappearance of flight MH370, the families of the victims do not despair of knowing the truth about this case one day.

239 people were on board the Boeing of the Malaysia Airlines which was to connect Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, but which quickly cut its communications and disappeared from the radar screens. The investigation officially concluded that there was a crash in the Indian Ocean, without however succeeding in determining the causes. Among the hypotheses put forward: the technical incident or the hijacking.

The plane was mainly carrying Chinese and Malaysian nationals, but also four French people. Ghyslain Wattrelos lost his wife and two of his children on the plane. From the start, he pointed out the inconsistencies of the investigation and the lack of evidence. He is convinced that the truth is hidden from families and has forged his own conviction about the location and causes of the MH370 crash:

Julien Pavy, euronews : Where is the investigation in France, the only one currently underway because the other countries have given up?

Ghyslain Wattrelos: French investigators are doing remarkable, in-depth work. The problem is that they have to get documents that are not in France, but in Malaysia, England, Australia. And unfortunately, they have a lot of cooperation problems (…) The United States has not been cooperating from the start. You should know that the FBI is on site in Kuala Lumpur the day after the disappearance of the flight. You have to explain to me why the FBI is investigating so early with the Malaysians. It’s the FBI who goes to the pilot, who takes his flight simulator. Be aware that the FBI never made any report in the official investigation. France has been negotiating with the US Embassy in France for three years to see the FBI, to find out what they did with the flight simulator and what they saw. The United States Embassy has been leading French investigators by boat for six years. However, if there is no cooperation from the United States, we are not moving forward.

Julien Pavy, euronews : Have you obtained proof of radar and satellite data?

Ghyslain Wattrelos : All the original data that says that this plane turned around and went to the bottom of the Indian Ocean, we never got it. There has never been any proof of Malaysian radar data and that of the British satellite Inmarsat. We only had transcripts and we know very well that this is only part of the data. We never had the proof, why? In addition, if the plane had made the route which is described by the official investigation, other countries would have data: Vietnam, Thailand, Burma, Indonesia, Singapore, India and Australia . All of these countries cover part of the alleged route of the aircraft. So they should have data, but they say they have nothing, not to mention China and the United States, which watch this region like milk on fire. They too should have data. So it’s still extremely weird that all these people say they haven’t seen anything or don’t give their data. I cannot believe that all these countries agree to say: we do not give our data. There is something wrong. And the bottom line is that the plane didn’t make this trip at all.

Julien Pavy, euronews : Do you have the conviction that something is being hidden from you?

Ghyslain Wattrelos: I am convinced of this from the first week since the research is first conducted in the China Sea then, after a week, we are told that the plane has turned around and that we have it. seen at night thousands of miles away. So yes, we say to ourselves that we are hiding something, that there is something wrong. As long as it is the Malaysians, we tell ourselves that they are incompetent, disorganized, that they are not used to it … But after a month, it is Australia which takes the leadership of the ‘investigation, but Australians say as much nonsense as Malaysians, and over and over. It is necessary to know the number of nonsense that the Australian Prime Minister could say on this affair.

Julien Pavy, euronews: Where could the plane be, in your opinion?

Ghyslain Wattrelos: The most likely in my opinion is that it fell in the China Sea because I don’t believe that so many countries have agreed that they have not seen the plane. These are countries that do not necessarily get along with each other. Most likely, the plane fell near where it was lost for military reasons, presumably. There are two possible reasons in my opinion: there was someone, something on the plane that was not supposed to arrive in Beijing and the plane had to be shot down. Second reason, there were at that time in the zone of important military maneuvers including a lot of countries, countries of Asia, the United States … Many military planes were circulating at that time. And back then, when you looked at the data on Flightradar – data that has since been erased, why I don’t know – you can see very well that when the MH370 was going around, there were planes all around that were going very fast. It may also be a military maneuver that has gone wrong, for example a military plane crashing into a civilian plane. It is unlikely, but it is possible. In any case, it is obvious that the Americans are involved, that they know what happened because they have AWACS in the area that are perfectly monitoring the area and these planes see everything. Maybe that’s also why the FBI is there the next day.

Julien Pavy, euronews : Have you managed to rebuild yourself psychologically seven years later?

Ghyslain Wattrelos: It takes time because for at least two years, we always hope that they will come back. For almost two years, we had no evidence of a crash, no debris, nothing. On the Internet, lots of crazy people said they were prisoners in Pakistan, Burma etc. You don’t rebuild yourself until you are sure they are truly gone. But after a while you say to yourself: ‘I have been told from the start that they are dead, that the plane has fallen into the water, that must be true. To the extent that I am told that they are deceased, it is because they are indeed deceased. ‘ You start to say to yourself: ‘I won’t go back, it’s over, I won’t see them again. It starts there. And life is also resuming because I still had a child, a son and I had no right to crack, to drift, I had to show him at all costs that life could be beautiful and that life was leaving, so I had to be the example for him to follow. Little by little, I rebuilt my life, personal and professional, because I had let go of everything. And today, I think I lead a life much like everyone else, I work, I have a personal relationship.

Julien Pavy, euronews: You will never give up your quest for truth?

Ghyslain Wattrelos: There is always this fight that is not over, this quest for truth. I am convinced that we are being lied to, I am convinced that lots of people know even the French government. We will always have to seek the truth and I hope we will find out one day. I think that with Florence de Changy’s book (“The Disappearance”), we get closer and closer to it. Maybe people will be able to talk. The fight is not over but that does not prevent me from living normally.
