Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
All 111 passengers were on board flight Swiss International Airlines arrives at destination. However, all the suitcases or items that should have been in the plane’s luggage were not brought.
Plane passengers waited at the baggage conveyor after they landed in Bilbao, Spain, Saturday (9/9), but it was later discovered that the flight had departed from Zurich, Switzerland, without a single bag in the trunk.
As quoted from AFP (12/9), Swiss International Airlines spokesperson, Kavin Ampalam, said that there was a shortage of ground staff at the departure airport, in this case in Zurich.
The flight crew had waited more than an hour to load baggage, but “for operational reasons”, ultimately decided to depart without baggage.
Ampalam said the reason the plane couldn’t wait was because it had to pick up passengers in Bilbao and return to Zurich before the airport closed at night.
“We understand the situation is unfortunate for the people involved, and of course we regret this inconvenience,” Ampalam said.
Frustrated passengers told German-language Swiss news outlet Blick that although the pilot had apologized for the take-off delay, there was no mention that the bag had been left behind.
The media report said the passengers waited for more than two hours on the conveyor belt, until they were told by staff at Spanish airline Iberia that their bags would not be coming.
In the latest information shared with Simple Flying, Ampalam said most of the bags had been sent to Bilbao on Sunday (10/9).
“We fully understand the frustration and anger of passengers, especially as many of them are traveling on holiday,” he said.
“For Swiss International Airlines, the situation is completely unsatisfactory. That is why we are reviewing our processes to prevent similar cases from happening again,” he added.
