Airlines in Europe and the US are rushing to secure spare parts and engines for their planes to avoid flight cancellations. This is necessary after last month the manufacturer of aircraft engines “Pratt & Whitney” (Pratt & Whitney) announced that it was recalling hundreds of them for inspection and repair, writes the “Financial Times”, quoted by BTA.
Pratt & Whitney announced the initiative after discovering that contamination in the metal used in the production of some aircraft engine parts could cause cracks in the engines.
A significant number of aircraft engines are expected to be repaired or checked for defects over the next 9 to 12 months. The inspections will cover nearly 1,200 of a total of more than 3,000 PW1100G-JM engines manufactured by Pratt & Whitney. They are also installed on Airbus A320neo aircraft.
About 200 of them will be checked by mid-September.
Against this background, a number of airlines, including the low-cost “Wizz Air” in Europe, as well as the American “Spirit airlines”, “JetBlue” and Hawaiian Airlines, are forced to change your flight schedules.
Wizz Air revises down its business growth forecast. The airline, which also operates in Bulgaria, is considering temporarily canceling some flights or even entire routes. It warned that problems with the plane’s engines were “putting pressure” on its aircraft maintenance activities, the Financial Times said.
