MELBOURNE – After a video emerged of passengers’ bags being thrown away and moved around, staff have lost their jobs. Video from Melbourne airport was widely circulated on social media. In this shocking video, staff can be seen carelessly tossing and tipping luggage.
The video shows two employees dragging passengers’ luggage onto the conveyor belt. Some bags can also be seen falling off the belt when pulled. A person throws bags on the belt with great force. He lifted the box with his head and threw it away. Then someone else laughs.
These are Swasport employees who have been subcontracted for the ground handling service at the airport. After the video went viral, the contract holders investigated and fired the duo. The airport authorities also communicated that the other employees have been re-trained on how to handle baggage.
