Flicker break at the schools in Risch: analogue leisure time formats for children and young people
—
The Health Office of the Canton of Zug is implementing the “Flimmerpause” project for the fifth time. The participating school classes and families reduce their screen media consumption during the flicker break week or on a freely selectable date.
—
Even before the official flicker break week, namely from May 30th to June 5th, school classes and families in the municipality of Risch reflect on their media consumption and, according to the health department, deliberately reduce it in favor of similar activities in school and leisure time.
Reflection on dealing with digital media
Around 300 pupils in the 3rd to 6th primary classes are looking forward to their flickering break. They have been dealing with media consumption in the classroom for several weeks.
During the flicker break week, teachers use an analogue school week as far as possible, strengthen skills and knowledge in dealing with digital media and encourage children and young people to engage in screen-free leisure activities. The children and young people are encouraged to deal with their personal use of digital media.
Screen-free alternative program
In order to use the “newly gained” time sensibly and, if necessary, to discover new leisure activities, youth development and community work in Risch, together with local clubs, has once again created an extremely attractive, free alternative program for the screen-reduced week this year.
Creating a radio show, self-defence, skating, golfing, shooting sports, mountain biking, tennis, try diving, lifeguard flash courses or taekwondo are just a few of the many attractive offers. As the crowning glory of the week, from Saturday, June 4th to Monday, June 6th, 2022, Jungwacht and Blauring Rotkreuz are offering a Pentecost camp with games and fun in nature.
It is to be hoped that other communities will be inspired by Risch and implement their flicker break in the course of 2022. (haz)
