Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – National coach Hansi Flick will for the time being waive a compulsory vaccination for the German national soccer players.
“I can now play for a while, we only have the next international match in March,” said Flick during a video link for the German Football Association. “And I think a lot will have changed by then.”
The possibility of not nominating unvaccinated national players was last discussed in Wolfsburg at the beginning of November after the corona infection of Bayern defender Niklas Süle. With the double vaccinated Süle, four professionals had to leave as contact persons in quarantine before the final World Cup qualifiers, including Joshua Kimmich, who had previously made public that he was not protected against the virus. Meanwhile, the tendency at Kimmich to vaccinate, said Flick.
National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, who will play the EM in England next summer with the DFB women, said that with a “2G plus” rule it could “sometimes happen that you cannot nominate a player”. Among the German national players, however, the vaccination rate is “almost 100 percent”.
