Flexible Motorola Razr Plus: Impressive Durability Tests and Review

Flexible Motorola is doing quite well with its durability
In the case of dust resistance, it even exceeded expectations
The pressure against the joint was nevertheless final for the clam

Flexible smartphones have long struggled with the reputation of very fragile devices that cannot withstand much. The truth is that in its early days it was not exactly rosy in terms of durability and now it is perhaps too easy to damage the folds in some models, but in general it can be said that they quite often withstand similar loads as phones with a classic design. Well-known YouTuber Zack Nelson, who runs the channel JerryRigEverything, is also trying to convince his viewers of this.

Motorola handles normal handling with ease

In it, he tested the durability of the flexible Motorola Razr Plus clam shell (sold here as the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra), which he certainly did not skimp on in his test. In many cases, it corrected the mistakes of its predecessors, which you can also read about in our review, but when it comes to the durability of the structure, only the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything had to test it. He subjected Motorola to all his well-known tests, such as the resistance of the display to changes in temperature using a lighter, the attempt to damage the internal and external display with the help of tips of different hardness, sealing against dust or different forces and directions of bending.

Rather surprisingly, the flexible shell passed most of the tests with flying colours. The internal display is understandably more susceptible to both mechanical damage and temperature changes under an open fire, but the external display does not compete with conventional smartphones. Motorola was also able to withstand the dust test despite the fact that it does not have the highest certification guaranteeing durability. What finally disappointed Motorola was the bend against the joint, which, with the development of a higher force, damaged the external display to the point that the glass began to crumble from it.

However, with normal handling, the Motorola Razr Plus should last without much damage, which is good news for jigsaws. Lower resistance in the case of the internal display will probably be a big topic for all the puzzles that will be solved only by the arrival of new technology that will replace the current cover films. Still, the progress that flexible smartphones have made in just a few years of existence is remarkable.
