Abidjan- The Minister of National Education and Literacy, Professor Mariatou Koné, also spoke as president of the Conference of Ministers of Education of States and Governments of the Francophonie (CONFEMEN), on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 in Kigali , Rwanda, with its delegation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation led by Benjamin Piper, Director of the Global Education Program.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the second edition of the Exchange on Basic Learning in Africa (FLEX 2024), which will be held between November 11 and 13 in the Rwandan capital, allowing both parties to work on several important points they were identified with a view to partnership.
This includes support and monitoring and evaluation related to the National Early Learning Program (PNAPAS) which was established following the recommendations of the General States of Education and National Literacy (EGENA). As part of the exercise and under the leadership of Minister Mariatou Koné, 40,000 teachers benefited from training and capacity building in August 2024.
The discussions also focused on introducing national languages into the education system in Côte d’Ivoire. Convinced by the contribution of mother tongues to learning, Côte d’Ivoire conducted a pilot test with 10 national languages as part of the ELAN (School and National Languages) project. The prospects for expanding this project were discussed during the discussions.
The issue of the visibility of the CONFEMEN Educational Systems Monitoring Program (PASEC), considered an effective system by the Bill and the Melinda Gates Foundation, and the strengthening of national capacities in terms of evaluation were addressed.
