Due to a leak in the water pipe of the Flevoziekenhuis in Almere, no drinking water comes out of the taps. Appointments, admissions and operations can continue as normal. The fire brigade has installed a temporary pipeline.
The leak was discovered yesterday afternoon. The hospital was then able to switch to the water buffer, writes Broadcasting Flevoland. “We have a buffer of 100,000 liters,” says the spokesperson. “That kept us going until midnight.”
Jerry cans
The fire brigade then installed the emergency line, so showering and washing hands are still possible. But the water that now comes out of the tap is not yet safe to drink. That is why water company Vitens has supplied jerry cans with clean water. “We only have to bring a cup of coffee from home, because the coffee machine is closed,” says the spokesperson.
It is expected that clean drinking water will flow from the tap in the hospital again tomorrow evening. The technical service is currently working on repairing the water pipe. Once that is done, the water quality is tested for 24 hours. Clean water loses its quality due to the growth of bacteria. “And it takes time for bacteria to grow, so testing also takes time.”
How the leak could have occurred is still being investigated.
