Goedele Liekens has recently been diagnosed with skin cancer with metastases. The 57-year-old Flemish presenter and sexologist is late Facebook know that she is therefore temporarily stepping back from the media.
“It started a few months ago with such a strange stain that dermatologists have been warning about for years,” says Liekens. “That stain was immediately removed. When that turned out not to be enough, there was an operation to cut the thing out quite deep.”
The melanoma had spread and that is why Liekens is now being treated. “There are good days when I live happily and energetically as if nothing is wrong”, says the presenter.
“Then I force myself to indulge while I can. There are bad days when the side effects of that treatment make me dead tired, nauseous and sick. Have to stop halfway up the stairs before you can get upstairs in your bed … fellow sufferers know it. “
