Flemish minister Demir (N-VA) licenses large-scale project of chemical giant Ineos in the port of Antwerp

Groen (at Flemish and local level in the opposition) reacts disappointed to the decision to grant a permit to Ineos.

“Flanders must invest in the port of the future, Demir is now issuing a permit for polluting technology from the past”, respond the Antwerp Groen councilors Imade Annouri and Nordine Saïdi Mazarou. “A plastic factory that uses tax money for environmental pollution is not the idea we have of future-oriented sustainable investments.”

Ineos’ plans for new installations for the production of ethylene and propylene have already been protested. For example, action group Ineos Will Fall recently occupied a piece of forest that will have to make way for the factory. In her own words, she also collected 10,000 signatures against the project and a list of more than 700 objections and objections together with fellow action group Antwerp Shale Gas Free.
