The Flemish government has awarded the Flemish decorations for the seventh year in a row. It is a tribute to people or organizations that have made a special effort for society. This year, the honor went to VUB rector Caroline Pauwels and star chef Peter Goossens, among others.

VUB rector Caroline Pauwels receives the Flemish decoration “for her commitment and fighting spirit, both in her public and private life”. Star chef Peter Goossens gets the honor because he is the “symbol for all the assets of our Flemish gastronomy”. Martine Tanghe, former VRT news anchor, will receive a decoration “for the stamp she has left on Flemish television journalism, not least because of her correct and clear use of Dutch”.

Pfizer Belgium will receive a decoration “as an exponent of Flanders as a prime location for a knowledge-driven and innovative biopharma industry”. “All employees of Pfizer Belgium deserve a Flemish decoration for the groundbreaking research work, the fast production, well-oiled logistics and stable supplies of vaccines against the coronavirus.” CEO Karel Van De Sompel came to receive it.
There is also a decoration for Katrijn Clemer. She is program manager of the COVID vaccination center in Mechelen and representative of the vaccination centers in the various consultation structures with the Flemish government. “She accepts the decoration on behalf of all employees and volunteers of the 95 vaccination centers in Flanders”, it kinks.
