Flemish-Brabant governor Lodewijk De Witte obliges everyone to always have a mouth mask with them. He wants to avoid discussions with citizens who use the excuse that they do not have a mouth mask in order not to wear this in places where this is mandatory in accordance with federal or municipal measures.

In addition to the federal measures with regard to the mouth mask obligation, various Flemish Brabant municipalities have demarcated specific areas where the mouth mask must be worn. Because people are sometimes faced with unforeseen circumstances in which they suddenly need a mouth mask, the governor from today imposes the obligation on everyone in Flemish Brabant to always have one with them.
There is no penalty provision in the police decree issued by the provincial governor on this matter.
“This is a conscious choice,” says provincial governor Lodewijk De Witte. “After all, it is not the intention that the police will actively enforce this decision. The aim is to send a clear message so that discussions with citizens who are looking for excuses not to wear the mouth mask because they have none can be refuted. Anyone who always has his mask with him does not always have to wear it, but can easily meet the obligation if there is one ”.
