Flc Cgil, 4 billion more are needed for education

(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 22 – An additional 4 billion is needed to make the world of education work, from nursery school to university (4 billion a year is already being spent today), and to bring compulsory schooling to 18 years: in the current school year there were over 250 thousand temporary workers among teaching staff and Ata; 87,803 fixed-term contracts were stipulated on common positions and 117,560 on support; 1 in 7 curricular teachers is precarious while in support one teacher in 2 is precarious. And as regards the Ata there are 22 thousand fixed-term contracts until 31 August and 15 thousand those until 30 June in addition to 6800 fixed-term positions Pnrr and Southern Agenda. The framework was outlined today by the Flc Cgil in a press conference in the Senate in which the ‘Zero precariousness’ platform was presented to eliminate precariousness in schools, universities, research and improve the entire system. In particular, for the nursery school the Flc Cgil requests an implementation of the staff of 20 thousand units, for the elementary school of 33 thousand units; for middle school the union is asking for a strengthening of laboratory activities in 30-hour classes with co-presence in long-term classes and authorization of a further 750 musical courses, with an increase in staff of 14 thousand teachers. In high school, the union – explained the general secretary, Gianna Fracassi and the trade unionist Manuela Calza – asks for the elimination of exceptional classes, with a number of students exceeding 28 and an implementation of 13 thousand teachers. At the university, things are no better if it is true that half of the staff – as reported by Fracassi herself and the trade unionist Pino Di Lullo – 49% of the workers are temporary workers. “We ask for an ordinary investment plan – concluded Fracassi – the money must be found, the other EU countries have found it and in this crucial moment training is fundamental for the future of the country while we see, unfortunately, little attention and awareness from part of Parliament on these issues”.
