At first, a light-hearted summer comedy, accompanied by countless famous songs, ends as few apparently expected. Rebels can entertain and make you laugh, but also make you sad and cry – certainly not only because of a few mistakes that crept into the film.
Colorful, joyful and magical
Present in detail romantic and comedy musical Rebels from 2001 certainly not necessary. Who doesn’t know immortal songs like Shadow of cathedrals, I will tiptoe, Tell me where the flowers are, I like Bob, Oliver Twist, Heel and many others that all came together in just this the successful retro musical by Filip Renč and Zdenek Zelenka?
The relaxed summer spectacle, which will soon turn serious as a result of the unfortunate events of 1968, transports the viewer to the past, where hardly anyone can imagine the threat of occupation. The biggest fear in the life of the main character and her friends is the coming-of-age test, and the hope for a brighter tomorrow is floating in the air. Their everyday life is suddenly brightened by a trio of mysterious strangers, and that’s how a great love story full of unfulfilled dreams, dance and familiar melodies begins.
Although the Rebels hold “only” 69% on the Czech-Slovak film databaseregularly return to the screens and continue to arouse interest, as evidenced by the quite new reviews. “Colorful, joyful, it has its own charm. Definitely,” writes one of the viewers.

Some objects have no business in the 1968 story
It can be assumed that with such a lively, pulsating, brightly colored and populated spectacle, where dancing and singing is the main thing, there must necessarily be by several errors that the creators did not notice during filming. However, attentive viewers have accumulated a number of errorswhether they concern sequence, historical facts or logic.
For example, the fact that the students in the film attended the gymnasium for four whole years, as is the case nowadays, is wrong, because in the sixties of the last century, they studied there for only three years. Not even the scene where it is mentioned Off to Kamašúshould not be present since the book was published in 1969 and the movie takes place a year earlierlogically in the summer of 1968.
Some mistakes are obvious at first glance and will be noticed by everyone, even if they have seen the film once. When the girls say goodbye to Tereza (Zuzana Norisová) and rush home in the beginning of rain, she herself has beautifully combed and dry hair. It’s obvious that they have to get her wet soon, but the cut comes so suddenly and unhappily that her hair is already wetbarely steps into the rain and begins to sing.

Also Julčina (Anna Veselá) the cotton candy on the pilgrimage surprisingly changes shape in the course of a single scene. Within a few spoken words, he has it first whole, then half-eaten, and then whole again. Who doesn’t want candy that magically replenishes itself?
