One of the most original and emblematic buildings in the city of New York (USA) has changed ownership. The “Flatiron building” (“iron building” in French), which owes its name to its very particular shape, was in fact sold at auction this Wednesday. He found a buyer for 190 million dollars, or approximately 177 million euros. The “famous building located in Midtown Manhattan was built between 1900 and 1902.
A financier as new owner
The highest bidder is called Jacob Garlick. He is a specialist in finance which created the investment fund Abraham Trust, indicated an auctioneer of the auction house Mannion Auctions, in charge of the sale. “It’s been a dream since I was 14,” commented the new owner when interviewed by television channel NY1.
One of the unsuccessful bidders estimated the amount of repair work needed in the building at $100 million. The latter had been empty since 2019, when the company that occupied it left the premises. The five owners of the “Flatiron” had failed to reach an agreement on the future of the 22-storey, 87-meter high building. Justice had finally ordered the auction of the building.
