Flatiron, a subsidiary of the ACS Group, has won two contracts in the state of California totaling 101.5 million euros (123 million dollars) and thus reinforces its presence in the United States.
On the one hand, the city of San Diego has chosen Flatiron for build the Morena pump station, a key component of the Pure Water San Diego program. The ACS Group subsidiary will be in charge of the design, tender and construction of the station, a project valued at 90.7 million euros ($ 110 million). Works are scheduled to start in June 2021 and finish in 2025.
On the other hand, Flatiron will also take advantage of his experience in building bridges for some emergency repairs to the San Rafael Bridge in Richmond, for the California Department of Transportation. The project has an estimated value of almost 10.5 million euros (12.7 million dollars) and a duration of one year.
The San Diego project
Flatiron explains in greater detail in the press release the San Diego project, part of the Pure Water program of the North American city, will use water purification technology to clean recycled water and produce high-quality, safe drinking water. In total, the program has a budget of over 2,000 million dollars (just over 1,650 million euros). By the end of 2035, it is expected to provide one-third of the city of San Diego’s water supply.
The project is located in the district Morena from San Diego, near Sea World theme park. Significant project challenges, according to Flatiron, include “locating the pump station approximately 50 feet below grade, installing ten 750 horsepower pumps, constructing extensive microtunnels, and constructing a facility designed to combine with the architectural characteristics of the community ”.
