The idea of a flat Earth has actually been around for a long time. But the euphoria of flat-Earthers only peaked after Samuel Shenton founded the Flat Earth Community in England in 1956. So many ideas and claims that the Earth is flat can be proven.
Science itself is actually democratic, universally applicable, neutral, can still be criticized and revised if proven wrong. But on the one hand, science also has many methods and research used. So the results of the research refute a claim that is considered shallow and invalid.
Here are five flat Earth claims refuted by science:
1. Antarctica is the periphery of the Earth which is the boundary of the Earth
The ideas and claims about this are not new. Science has denied this many times. In general, the flat-Earth theory states that Antarctica is the periphery of the Earth which is the boundary of the end of the Earth. Because it is the boundary of the Earth, a very high and thick wall is made to prevent humans from leaving Earth’s territory.
Why can there be a claim like this? According to Live Science, lack of understanding and blind bigotry led some to believe the walls in Antarctica. Those who tend to believe in conspiracy theories also support the idea that the shape of the Earth is like a disk or flat.
Science then has an accurate rebuttal. There are thousands of scientists and academics from various countries who regularly work in Antarctica. They did not find testimony about the giant wall in Antarctica. Next is the geographical evidence linking Antarctica and South America, showing that the Earth is round.
Possibly, the high ice sheet was quickly seen as a barrier to the theory buff. Though the thick layer of ice is the surface of the Earth at the Earth’s poles.

2. The horizon is not curved when seen with the naked eye

Reported National Geographic, horizon or horizon is an imaginary boundary line that appears to separate the Earth and the sky (Space). For flat-Earthers, the horizon is considered flat (Straight) because it doesn’t look curved to the naked eye.
Before discussing Earth, try to imagine there is an ant on the surface of a sphere with a diameter of 10 thousand meters. What happened? Of course the spherical horizon just looks flat. Because the ratio of the ant’s body to the diameter of the ball is very lame. So do humans on Earth. Humans who see the horizon line with the naked eye are not curved or straight.
According to a science site How Stuff Works, The curvature of the horizon will be visible depending on the position of the human height. The distance of the horizon will change according to the position of the human observing it. For example, you are 1.7 meters above sea level. Then the visible horizon will be at a distance of 5 kilometers.
The higher the standing position, humans will also see an increasingly curved horizon. One valid proof that the Earth is round is the sighting of ships from a distance. The end of the mast will be seen first, followed by the appearance of the entire hull.

3. The earth does not rotate

Earth does not seem to move because the size of the human body is very small when compared to a planet. Science proves that the Earth continues to rotate on its axis while revolving around the Sun as the largest star in the solar system.
As noted in the page NASA, there are many satellites in Earth’s orbit that keep moving following the acceleration of the Earth’s movement. These satellites will help human life in terms of navigation, communication, GPS, and others.
The alternation of day and night in several regions of the country is also clear evidence that the Earth rotates. The intensity of sunlight will occur higher at the equator than at the poles.

4. The distance between the sun and the earth is very close

Flat-Earth theory that assumes that does not explain in detail how close the distance is. In fact, the distance between the Sun and Earth is 150 million kilometers on average, according to page records Space.
Why average? Because at its farthest point, the distance between the Earth and the Sun is 152 million kilometers. While at its closest point, the distance between the two reaches 147 million kilometers.
This proves that the Earth revolves around the Sun according to its orbit. Is 147 to 152 million kilometers a close distance? Well, The answer is of course relative.
But clearly, the distance of the Sun to Earth is considered ideal for sustaining the life of organisms on Earth. If the distance is far below that, then the Earth will be like Venus or Mercury which are very hot and have no life.

5. All photos about space are fake

When there are accusations from parties that say photos or images of outer space are fake, they should also include valid evidence. If there is no evidence, then the accusation cannot be justified.
In fact, many other countries are already sending technology and astronauts into space. Starting from America, Europe, Russia, China, Canada, Brazil, India, Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates are big countries that regularly send missions into space.
Are they committing mass lies and deliberately fabricating space photos? There is no strong reason to prove it from adherents of the flat Earth theory.
All astronomers to astronauts claim that science photos taken in space are genuine and made for academic purposes.
