Flash floods hit Hong Kong until most of the area was paralyzed. Heavy rain triggered flash floods which submerged roads and public facilities.

Reported by CNN, flooding began at midnight on Thursday (7/9/2023), with the Hong Kong Observatory recording rainfall reaching more than 158 millimeters between 23.00 local time and midnight. Some parts of the city of 7.5 million people, according to the online weather data site Ogimet, were hit by nearly 500 millimeters of rain in 24 hours.
Until Friday (8/9/2023) local time, heavy rainfall submerged most of Hong Kong. The heavy rain triggered flash floods, submerging metro stations and stranding motorists on flooded roads.
A number of photos and videos show Hong Kong residents daring to wade through floodwaters filled with murky brown water as heavy rain continues to pour down. In several lowland areas, roads have turned into ‘rivers’ with strong currents.

2. Enter Black Level Rainstorm Warning
Hong Kong is still under a ‘black’ level rainstorm warning issued since Thursday (7/9) evening. With this warning level, residents are advised to stay indoors and seek shelter, while residents near the river are asked to consider evacuating.
In its warning, the Hong Kong government said these extreme conditions included widespread flooding, traffic disruption and a high risk of landslides.
3. Schools are closed
Hong Kong authorities were forced to close schools. In addition, companies are advised to allow their employees to remain at home or seek safe shelter because travel cannot be done safely.
4. Interrupted Car Travel
In addition, flooding reportedly triggered widespread transport and business disruption in the financial hub, with stock markets canceling morning trading.
Train schedules in the country have also been disrupted. Stock exchanges are also set to close, as long as a black thunderstorm warning is in effect.
Authorities also asked workers to stay indoors. Videos circulating on social media show many streets in Hong Kong turning into rivers with quite fast flows.
