Flanders Repays 3 Million Euros to Netherlands for Trambus and Cross-Border Traffic Plan

Flanders has repaid 3 million euros to the Netherlands, now that there is no express tram but a trambus between Hasselt and Maastricht. Flanders wants a total plan for cross-border traffic with the trambus, the train Hamont-Weert and bridges over the Maas.

The 3 million is actually a repayment of the 3 million euros compensation that the Netherlands paid to Flanders a few years ago. That was because the express tram in Maastricht did not cross the Wilhelmina Bridge and therefore did not reach the station. Flanders had parked that money and has now paid it back.

But now the Netherlands is demanding back a total of 22 million in operating and study costs incurred for the preparation of the express tram. Flanders does not want to pay for that. During the holiday period, mediators try to work out a proposal that will then be put on the table in the autumn.
