Flames from a fire consumed a historic San Francisco bar

Around 5 o’clock this Wednesday, a raging fire completely destroyed the premises where the “Mis Amigos” bar, owned by the Gamo family and one of the most traditional in San Francisco, operates for more than four decades.

At the corner of Paraguay and Libertador Sur, five teams of Volunteer Firefighters from San Francisco arrived this morning, with 25 men. The incident was of such magnitude that there was a danger of the flames reaching the surrounding properties. In addition to firefighters, personnel from the Córdoba police, the Urban Prevention Corps and a irrigation truck from the Municipality collaborated.

Ariel Ronconi, Commissioner of Volunteer Firefighters, confirmed that the damage was “total” and that the people who live in a boarding house that operates next to the bar on Paraguay Street had to be evacuated. Ventilation tasks were also carried out.

The family that owns the business explained that they do not know the causes that caused the fire. The case is investigated by local Justice.

Through their Facebook account, the Gamo family posted: “As is already public knowledge, our premises have suffered serious damage after a fire this morning. Now we have to go through this process with faith and resilience.”

They explained that they decided to use social networks “to give eternal thanks to all the police officers, the volunteer fire crews and the urban prevention people who were carrying out all their work with dedication, body and soul.”

They also extended their gratitude “to every person who came forward and offered their support, listening and hug.”
