9 days after the end of the transfer window, Flamengo is experiencing the frustration of not having been able to achieve all of coach Tite’s wishes to resolve the shortcomings of the red and black team.

The defensive sector is one of the coach’s biggest problems, who only has Léo Pereira, Fabrício Bruno, Cleiton and veteran David Luiz for the season. The number of defenders is very small, especially because Flamengo loaned Pablo to Botafogo and did not renew the contract with Rodrigo Caio.

Due to the style of play that Tite is gradually implementing in the team, defender Léo Ortiz becomes the ideal piece to fit into the red and black squad and, therefore, Flamengo has been desperately trying to sign him.

At 28 years old, the Red Bull Bragantino defender could cost the Red Bull coffers up to 10 million euros (almost 50 million reais).

For at least two months, Flamengo has been negotiating with the São Paulo team to negotiate the athlete. Currently, Flamengo and Bragantino have no talks for the player. The athlete’s staff at the Bragança Paulista club are dealing with the situation. Flamengo is awaiting a call so that, at some point, it can participate in the negotiations again.

Therefore, in addition to hoping for the player’s staff’s convincing power, Flamengo is now pinning its hopes on a Colombian team.

This is the Rio Negro Águillas.

Bragantino and Rio Negro Águillas face each other this Tuesday at the Nabi Abi Chedi stadium in the pre-Libertadores return game. In the first game the teams drew goalless and a simple victory is enough for one of the teams to qualify for the group stage of the Libertadores.

If the Colombian team qualifies, Flamengo understands that Bragantino may be forced to negotiate the player, as they will not have the revenue that CONMEBOL allocates to clubs in the group stage of the competition.

The situation is very similar to what happened in 2023, when Flamengo tried to sign Nicolas De La Cruz from River Plate and heard from the directors that he would only leave after paying the fine, as they were counting on the player to the Libertadores dispute that year.

At the time, Flamengo decided to wait, but in the end they ended up paying the athlete’s fine even after River’s elimination from the competition.

Rio Negro Águillas is currently seventh in the Colombian league, with 14 points in 8 games, 6 points less than Tolima, leader of the competition.
